Overall, BlackSingles scored 8th place of all the reviewed dating websites. This is a little misleading since BlackSingles is especially geared towards African-Americans so the amount of traffic it receives will be less than other sites. If you are looking for African-American singles, then this site may be just right for you. BlackSingles finished first in the “Membership Price” category, with the most affordable memberships of all the reviewed sites.

Free Registration:
Registration to Black Singles is free, and includes the ability to see other members’ pictures and profiles. You may also fill out your own profile, though you will be unable to contact any member until you upgrade to a paid subscription.
Type of Dating Website:
Black singles is a special interest dating website that caters to….you guessed it…. black singles. You can search the site for dates, marriage, or just friends. Please note however that it is a heterosexual dating site, so if you are a gay black single, then it would be best to look elsewhere for love.
Filling Out Your Online Dating Profile:
During registration, a short questionnaire asks you to fill out basics like your hair and eye color, height, gender, occupation, smoking, drinking, marital status, children, religion, and location. You will also see the Question of the Week, a creative question that gives you insight into a person’s character and tastes. “What is your favorite literary character?” is one example. The “Relationship Readiness” quiz assesses how ready you are for a serious relationship.
Once you have access to the site, you will have the ability to fill out the rest of your profile. In “fun facts,” list your favorite movies, music, etc. Like any good dating website, there is a personality test which helps assess your personality and how you might get along with other kinds of personalities. This test is called the Color Code and classifies your basic personality as red, blue, white or yellow. The core motivation of red is power; blue is intimacy, white is peace, and yellow is fun. Most people find the Color Code to be remarkably accurate and helpful.

You have the option of contacting people by email, smiling, sending a “gift,” spark, or a card. Cards include pre-made online cards for birthdays, friendship, care & concern, thank you, holidays, romance, etc. You can add a member to your friends or favorites list and leave a comment on his or her profile. You also have the ability to see when your friends are online, chat, instant message, or post something on the special interest message boards.
Preferences for Your Dating Profile:
When finding a match, you can set the degree of importance for the following: body type, education, relationship status, religion, ethnicity, smoking, drinking, and children. You can specify a height and age range, and how far in distance your match can live from you. An advanced search allows you to search for different variables independent of your set preferences. This allows you to see what’s out there without being locked and chained to your preferences. Members have access to the Compass matching test. It evaluates over 100 factors of personality and compatibility.
Black Singles has a number of different search options that offer user appeal. There’s a Quick Search based on age, gender, and keywords. “Who’s online?” is an obvious one. “Think you’d click?” brings up a person’s profile with whom you have a lot of compatibility, and you get to answer yes, no, or maybe. Photo shuffle pulls up a bunch of photos for an age range you specify. Peruse for pleasure at your leisure. You may also search by “my recent matches,” “question of the week,” and “stand-out profiles.” There is a spotlight profile on the side bar that shows a member and what common interest the two of you share.
In “Delivery Options,” you can set whether or not you want email sent to you when new matches are found. You can also specify whether or not you want your match preferences on your profile and what percentage your matches must meet your preferences in order to be visible to you.
Online Dating Paid Subscription:
Black Singles is definitely one of the more affordable online dating websites and is 2-10 times cheaper than most other dating sites. A paid subscription allows you to communicate with other members on the site. The rates are as follows:
- 6 Months- $4.99 per month, one payment of $29.94
- 3 Months- $6.99 per month, one payment of $20.97
- 1 Month- $9.99 per month, one payment of $9.99
There is an auto-renewal that happens at the end of your paid time period, but you can change this at any time from your account page.
What I Liked Most About BlackSingles:
I like that Black Singles does not cost half my paycheck to subscribe. Most people can afford $7 a month if they are serious about finding love. I also liked the Color Code personality test and was happy that an affordable site included this most accurate psychological profiling system. The “Relationship Readiness” Quiz was a helpful guide that I have not seen anywhere else. Although the site is primarily for Black Singles, I did see a few white and latino people on the site with a taste for chocolate.
What I Liked Least About BlackSingles:
I thought the range of interests could have been more complete, though at least members have the option of describing themselves in their own words. This could potentially take care of anything that wasn’t covered in the multiple choice. I also didn’t like that there was no option of same-sex dating, as if black people weren’t discriminated against enough, can you imagine what black gay people must experience?
